Accessibility

This site aims for WCAG 2.2 AA. These are the measured contrast ratios for the colors in use.

Contrast

Normal text needs at least 4.5:1. Ratios below are relative luminance for the theme tokens.

Dark mode

  • Text #f4f2ec on #070809: 17.9:1, AAA.
  • Muted text #9a978f on #070809: 6.9:1, AA.
  • Button text #070809 on gold #c9a227: 8.3:1, AA.

Light mode

  • Text #161412 on #f7f4ee: 16.7:1, AAA.
  • Muted text #6a6458 on #f7f4ee: 5.3:1, AA.
  • Links and brand gold #6d520c on #f7f4ee: 6.7:1, AA.
  • Button text #161412 on gold #c9a227: 7.6:1, AA.
  • Button text #161412 on hover gold #e0bc4a: 10.0:1, AA.

An earlier light gold, #8f6b0f, measured 4.47:1 on the page background, which misses AA for normal text. The same gold behind near-black button text measured 3.7:1, which also misses AA. Link gold and button gold are now separate pairs so each clears 4.5:1.

Keyboard

Skip to content is the first tab stop. Buttons and links show a visible focus outline. The login and account menus open with the arrow keys and close with Escape, which returns focus to the button that opened them.

Images

Photographs that convey content include a text alternative. Decorative images that sit beside a written description use an empty alt and are hidden from assistive technology.

Cookies

The cookie banner is in the tab order. Reject analytics is focused when the banner opens. Both choices are buttons of equal weight.
